Samnaun kicks off the winter season with annual Clau Wau Santa Claus World Championships Nov. 25-26. More than 100 Santas from across the world will descend on Samnaun to battle it out for the title of "Santa Claus World Champion".

The eventful weekend begins of Friday evening with live music, shows, and presentation of the ClauWau teams. The competition starts Saturday with a Santa's Zipfybob race on Musella hill followed by a Santa's parade from Musella through Samnaun village to the festival grounds.

After lunch in the tent, the Santas will go head to head on timed tasks such as building snow sculptures and decorating gingerbread men. Then follows the most popular events: the Santa sleigh race and the Santa chimney climb. After dinner the downhill ski race completes the event.

At the end of the performance the team to gathered the most points from the games win the title of the "Santa Claus World Champions."

Participation in ClauWau is free but you must fill out an application soon.

The Samnaun Tourist Office says: "The unconquerable chimneys are packed full of sacks and presents which have to be quickly surmounted and unruly pine trees are blocking the way on the downhill ski race."

The resort of Samnaun is located in Silvretta Arena Samnaun/[R677R, Ischgl] - the biggest ski area of the eastern Alps. It unites the two winter sports centres of Samnauan on the Swiss side and Ischgl on the Austrian side. The area offers limitless skiing with 230 kilometres of piste.
