Connecticut's four ski and snowboard areas are up and running for the winter. That's thanks to the cold snowmaking weather of early December, and the East Coast storm of Dec. 20 that hit the state's shoreline hard, and dumped fresh powder inland.
The state's resorts have offered generations of area skiers and snowboarders an affordable way to hit the slopes, day and night, close to home.
Ski Sundown in New Hartford is fully open on all trails and lifts, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekends.
Sundown has a New Year's Eve Family Party planned 6 p.m. to midnight Dec 31. Families celebrate together while the countdown begins. Enjoy two hours of extra time on the slopes. Party favors, music and entertainment. A torchlight parade. Night lift ticket prices: adults 15 and over, $34; juniors 7-14, $31; children 6 and under, $16. Ski Mount Southington in Plantsville, Woodbury Ski Area in Woodbury, and Mohawk Mountain in West Cornwall also are open, with more terrain being covered by the day, thanks to the continuing cold snap.
