Chamonix will host the Freeride World Tour Jan. 29-31, 2010 for the third year running.
The world-famous freeride event brings together the very best freeriders from across the world. The tour is divided in to four stages: Nissan Russian Adventure by Swatch in Sochi Jan. 21; Nissan Freeride at Chamonix, France Jan. 30; Nissan Tram Face at Squaw Valley USA Feb. 27; and Nissan Xtreme by Swatch in Verbier, Switzerland March 20.
Top American freeride skier, JT Holmes, has qualified to the Freeride World Tour 2010. He says: "Putting yourself up against the best skiers in the world four times during the year, you're going to see where your strengths and weaknesses are . . . The Freeride World Tour only chooses the best mountains. It is a privilege to ski the Tram Face in Squaw, to ski a heli run in Sochi, ski in Chamonix, and the Bec de Rosses in Verbier."
Chamonix's skiing extends over three main areas: Brévent/Flégère, offering south-facing slopes and exceptional views of the Mont-Blanc chain; the Grands Montets, high-altitude north-facing slopes which dominate the village of Argentière; and the Balme area's wide open slopes at the top of the Chamonix valley, bordering Switzerland.
