Shawnee Mountain in eastern Pennsylvania is celebrating Learn a Sport Month in grand style.  The resort is offering 100 introductory Learn to Ski packages Jan. 7 for $15. The package includes a lift ticket, a group lesson, and rentals. What's even better? The resort is donating the proceeds to the Bushkill Outreach, a local nonprofit organization that offers crises, health, hunger, and medical support resources to its community.

The regular rate available during the rest of the month is $75 midweek, and $80, weekends and holidays.

Jan. 3 is Girl Scout day. Scouts can come as a group or individually. It's a way to encourage scouts to take up a snow sport and potentially earn points toward a badge. The nearby Shawnee Presbyterian Church Hostel can provide affordable accommodations for groups of up to 50.

Rounding out the month from Jan. 27 - 29 is the Winter Fun Getaway for homeschoolers from New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.  Discounts, lodging packages, multi-day lift tickets, and home school networking opportunities are part of the event.

Shawnee Mountain terrain is 75 percent beginner or intermediate on 23 slopes and trails. There are two terrain parks and a snowtubing park at the mountain. Snowmaking. covers the entire mountain.
