Freezing cold and pounding snow has helped Loveland Ski Area open more terrain. Conditions are perfect for snowmaking, which has helped, too. The Love Park terrain park is now open on Tempest run, with six features. Two lifts are open. The cafeteria will serve turkey with all the trimmings Thanksgiving day.

A couple of rail jams are scheduled Thanksgiving weekend. Rome Snowboards is hosting the 2009 Premature Jib for all ages and abilities. Register Friday morning. Nordica is hosting a terrain park contest for skiers Sunday. Register in the morning. Both events are free, but you will need a lift ticket.

The U.S. Ski Team is now training at Loveland Valley. You'll find Chair 7 and beginner terrain at Loveland Valley open, along with Loveland's Ski & Ride School, which opened three weeks early, thanks to all of the storms in Colorado.

Loveland will host the FIS NorAm Men's and Women's Slalom Cup just after Thanksgiving, . Some of the world's best skiers will compete for a chance to make it to the World  Cup tour. You'll see them if you're driving by on I-70.

Arapahoe Basin sits on the other side of Loveland Pass. A second intermediate run has opened which nearly doubles the ski area's early-season terrain. Snowmaking crews are concentrating on making snow from the top to the bottom, and hope to open another lift and several more trails within the next few weeks. The restaurant will be making turkey lunch with all the trimmings for the employees, and the menu will be available to the public for purchase Thanksgiving day as well.
