The Kids' Vacation Center gets an upgrade at Steamboat.

Changes are sweeping the base of the Steamboat Ski Area with the impending completion of the massive One Steamboat Place development, the Wildhorse Gondola, and nearly $2.5 million in on-mountain improvements.

The Kids' Vacation Center has been expanded at Steamboat. The new slopeside entrance increases the square footage 40 percent, adding nearly 3,000 square feet. New kiosks help with check-in, improve security, and make everyone more relaxed and happier. Drop-off spaces have been added in the covered garage of One Steamboat Place to make it easier for mom and dad.

The other new look is with a new Ski & Snowboard School ticket office, on the main plaza level of One Steamboat Place. It's 3,800 square feet, one-stop, and hassle-free.

More behind the scenes improvements include enhancements to the snowmaking system, which covers nearly 400 acres of top-to-bottom terrain. Steamboat's snowmaking system includes more than 300 hydrants, four pump houses, 121 high-efficiency guns, and a state-of-the-art digital operating system.

A new base-area first aid facility, in partnership with the local hospital, moves into One Steamboat Place.  Skiers can get medical aid from ski patrol, as well as transport services, at Fetcher Base Patrol.

One Steamboat Place is next to the Steamboat gondola at the base area. It's a 450,000-square-foot, ski-in, ski-out destination with shops, restaurants, pools, and a spa. It is scheduled to open in December with 80 residences. Former U.S. Ski Team superstar Chad Fleischer is opening a shop in the building. Chad was the one who had the leopard-print pattern dyed into his hair during his racing heyday.

Getting to Steamboat will be even easier this season. American, Continental, Delta/Northwest, and United Airlines will fly directly into Steamboat/Hayden Airport, from nine major airports.
