Canadians celebrated their Thanksgiving in early October. But Whistler Blackcomb can make a good Thanksgiving destination for U.S. citizens, as the resort plans to open just in time for vacationers to take advantage of the long holiday weekend.

The resort plans to open Nov. 26, Thanksgiving Day for U.S. citizens. Lifts on both mountains will operate daily 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those booking lodging reservations before Nov. 15 can get a discount on hotels or condos for stays from opening day through Dec. 21. A four-night lodging package with three days of skiing or snowboarding starts at $88 CAD per person per night. A variety of accommodations are available.

The early booking also grants families a bargain for kids. Kids 12 years old and under can stay free, rent gear for free, get free lift tickets, and receive free transfers from the airport. Families flying via Alaska Airlines to Vancouver (YVR) from selected cities in California, Oregon, and Washington State can have one child age 2-11 fly free with one adult.

You can also add on a sleigh ride on Blackcomb Mountain over the weekend to celebrate the holidays. The 40-minute tour with hot chocolate grabs views of the lights in Whistler Village.
