Locals at Sun Peaks are dancing with delight. Snows pelted the resort in late October-enough so that the resort bumped up its opening day.

"This is the earliest we have seen conditions like this and so to take advantage of this gift, we are going to move the planned opening day up to Nov. 14," said Sun Peaks' Jamie Tattersfield. "We aim to open as many lifts and runs as possible."

Grooming machines took to the slopes to pack the snow, and snowmaking efforts added to the growing layer of natural snow. Early snowmaking was already underway because of the Austrian National Ski Team planning to train on the slopes of Sun Peaks in mid-November.

Opening day also coincides with two ski films coming to town. Elektro and In Deep will show also on Nov. 14 at 4:30 and 8 p.m. at the Kamloops Convention Centre. Door prizes are available, and every ticket holder will receive a two-for-one lift ticket voucher for Sun Peaks.

Tickets for the films, which are available at Sun Peaks Resort and outlets in town, costs $8 for adults and $6 for juniors in advance. Door prices go to $10 for adults and $8 for juniors.

Sun Peaks plans to announce their final decision on what lifts and runs will be open some time Monday, Nov. 9. Check online for opening day details.
