Sun Valley Resort is prepping is slopes and lifts to open Nov. 26 for this winter's season. Mountaintop snows dumping 17 inches in one snowstorm in October fostered anticipation for the ski and snowboard season to start. Early visitors to the resort can take advantage of two packages-one that provides a Thanksgiving holiday vacation complete with all the trimmings.

The Thanksgiving package begins Nov. 25 and runs through Nov. 29. It combines four nights of lodging, three days of skiing or riding, plus a Thanksgiving feast. Rates for the package, which are based on double occupancy, begin at $282 per person. That works out to about $70 per person per day, including a lift ticket.

A pre-holiday lodging package also begins Thanksgiving weekend. The package, which is available Nov. 27 through Dec. 20, combines one night of lodging and one day of skiing for $67 per person. Rates are based on double occupancy, but a single occupancy rate of $107 is also available. Multiple days are available, too.

The resort aims to open both Bald Mountain and Dollar Mountain Nov. 26, conditions permitting. Bald Mountain has opened at least partially on Thanksgiving Day or the day prior 8 out of 10 years in the past decade. The resort will consider opening early should snow conditions permit.

Bald Mountain's new Roundhouse Gondola is expected to be ready to roll by Thanksgiving, too.
