Employee Shuttle Rolls On I-80; At Least One Dead

Squaw Valley USA Squaw Valley USA

Employees riding a shuttle bus from Reno to the Resort at Squaw Creek at Lake Tahoe were involved in a rollover accident Saturday morning (April 4). Associated Press was reporting at least one dead by mid-day, and four others had life-threatening injuries. Twenty-seven people taken to a Reno hospital. There were 30 people aboard the bus.

AP quoted California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Skeen saying the bus, "for an unknown reason, veered to the right shoulder, struck a guardrail, and rolled several times." Skeen said the bus driver had moderate to major injuries and officers were talking to him.

The bus makes daily runs between Reno and the upscale resort located adjacent to Squaw Valley USA ski resort, and according to a company spokesman, there have been no previous incidents.

The bus ended up in a ditch by the roadway and westbound lanes of 1-80 were closed at least for a while.
