Cypress Mountain in Vancouver, British Columbia, has had a good March. Abundant snowfall has allowed the ski area to extend its season.

Night skiing and riding was scheduled to end this past weekend. But due to a prolonged winter, the ski area plans to operate night skiing through April 8, 2012. The lifts will run daily 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

A contingency plan has been put in place in case the weather pattern shifts from snow to rain. If a warming trend brings rain, the resort plans to close for the duration and then re-open after the weather system passes.

Cypress Mountain also dropped lift ticket prices as of Monday, March 26. Spring session lift ticket rates run 20 percent less than regular season rates. Adult tickets run $47 for Super Day (9 a.m. to closing), and adult Nite Owl tickets (5 p.m. to closing) cost $31.

But you can also get on the slopes this spring at Cypress for even cheaper rates. The resort’s Beach Card is a spring version of the Gold Medal Card. After purchasing the Beach Card, cardholders are entitled to a 20 percent discount on lift tickets. That reduces the price of the adult Super Day ticket to $38 and the adult Nite Owl ticket to $25.

Beach Cards cost $52 for adults, $40 for youth, $35 for seniors, and $23 for children. The first visit with the card is free. They can be purchased online.

Cypress launches spring with its annual Spring Fest Celebration on April 1. The event features a free pancake breakfast, polar bear dip, and a dummy jump. Skiers and snowboarders can also get deals on used gear or sell off old equipment.

Cypress plans to operate after Easter. The lifts will continue to run in April until interest drops off.
