In Washington State, snow pelted the Cascade Mountains, especially in March. Crystal Mountain is taking advantage of the hefty snowfall by extending the spring ski and snowboard season.

Crystal received more than 14 feet of snow in March. The spring snow catapulted the season total well past the 500-inch mark.

Due to the deep snowpack, the resort has opted to extend its spring ski and snowboard season. Regular daily operations will continue until April 15. For spring, lifts will be open for skiing and snowboarding Fridays through Sundays in April and May. If conditions permit, Crystal may add weekend skiing and snowboarding into June or July.

After April 15, the resort will operate the gondola along with Discovery, Chinook, Forest Queen, Rainier Express, and Green Valley chairs in April. In May, Discovery, Chinook, Rainier Express, and Forest Queen chairlifts will operate as long as possible with the Green Valley chair and the gondola running for the duration. The lifts will run 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Lift ticket rates drop for April, with adult tickets costing $50-55. Rates drop again for May with adult tickets running $40-55. If skiing continues into June and July, rates will drop again to $30-35 for adults.

Spring passes went on sale April 1. Current 2011-2012 season passholders can add the April 20-May 28 spring season to their passes for $99 for all age groups, except children. Extensions for children’s passes cost $29. Those who do not own a season pass can purchase a spring pass for $149 for adults, $139 for youth, $109 for seniors, and $29 for children.

Season passes for 2012-13 also went on sale April 1. Anyone purchasing a Gold or Bronze pass now can use it from April 1-May 28 for lift access this spring. Passes for 2012-13 are on sale through May 31.
