Snowshoe Mountain Resort Offers Backcountry Dining

The Sunrise Backcountry Hut is nestled 2 miles from the Village of Snowshoe, high on the Cheat Mountain Ridge.

This rustic cabin overlooks the Greenbrier River Valley and the Monongahela National Forest.

Sunrise offers an unusual dining experience, far from the routine.

The hut can seat 18 dinner guests, who have a choice of entrees that include New York strip steak, duck a l'orange, glazed salmon, pecan encrusted trout, and grilled Italian Portobello mushroom, and sides of baked artichoke parmesan dip with crackers, garden salad with French break, wild long grain rice, and sugar snap peas. Desserts are freshly baked. Drinks include soft drinks, house beers, and wine.

Dinner costs $75 per person, and is served Fridays and Saturdays beginning Dec. 17, with additional servings on holidays. The price includes transportation to and from the hut.

The Sunrise Backcountry Hut also can be reserved overnight by parties of up to eight people, for $999 per night. Cost is $999 for the entire hut. The price includes transportation to and from the hut, lodging, dinner, and breakfast.

Snowshoe Mountain, located in Pocahontas County, is the largest winter resort in the mid-Atlantic.
