Freestylers from all over the world will flock to the Saas-Fee glacier July 18 to demonstrate their big air skills in the Saas-Fee Ride 09 competition.

This year will mark the seventh edition of this freestyle event in Saas-Fee. It offers a fun, relaxed day out for spectators too, with DJs on the mountain and a barbecue at the bottom of the snowpark.

During the summer, the Saas-Fee glacier is particularly popular with freestyle skiers and boarders. The freestyle park is due to open July 4 from 7:15 a.m to 1 p.m (opening hours extend to 2 p.m from Aug. 15). The park is designed to suit all levels of freestylers, with kickers, rails, and boxes in all shapes and sizes, and a halfpipe. The park is constantly changing too, depending on the weather, which gives plenty of room for creativity. The infamous chill-out zone is filled with comfortable sofas, relaxing beach chairs, and non-stop music.

Despite the balmy temperatures down in the Rhone valley over summer, there's plenty of snow in the Saas-Fee ski area. Summer riders can explore more than 20 kilometres of varied glacier pistes. The sun is very strong at high altitudes so remember your sun block.
