Sölden Opens Gaislachkogl Mountain Gondola

Sölden's state-of-the-art Gaislachkogl Mountain Gondola will be operational from the start of this winter season.

Construction on the project began in summer 2009 and it is due to be completed by the beginning of winter. The lift system, costing a total of €38 million, comprises a single-rope gondola and a triple-rope gondola.

The single-rope gondola will take skiers from the base of the mountain up to the middle station (2174m) with an hourly capacity of 3600 persons.

From the middle station, a triple-rope gondola will take skiers to the upper station (3440m) on the Gaislachkogl peak, transporting 1400 people per hour. The three-rope system includes two track ropes and one haul rope.

All three new mountain gondola stations of Gaislachkogl stick to a similar style: artistically curved buildings with a steel skeleton inside, covered by a giant plastic skin.

Also in construction is the new Zentrum Shuttle which links the hamlet of Innerwald to the centre of Soelden. The Zentrum Shuttle will be operational from the beginning of this winter season.

It offers two fully glazed, panoramic cabins for 40 people each. The cabins glide along the track in three minutes and has a capacity of 400 people per hour.
