This year's version has a new wrinkle: Skiers and riders who buy a regular lift ticket at Loon, Sugarloaf, or Sunday River can upgrade on the spot to a Frequent Skier Card by paying the difference between the lift ticket and the $89 price of the card. They have to make the decision at the time they buy the lift ticket, which given the economics of the deal should not be rocket science.

"The Frequent Skier Card is a great value," said Jim Costello, director of sales and marketing for Sunday River. "With the newly added day of free skiing and riding, guests can break even on their purchase of the Frequent Skier Card after only three days of use."

The card saves holders $25 on midweek, non-holiday lift tickets, and $15 on weekend and holiday lift tickets at the three areas.

There's more, for skiers and snowboarders who travel: Card holders also can save $20 on regular season one-day lift tickets at Big Sky, Montana; and $25 on midweek, non-holiday tickets, and $15 on weekend, night and holiday tickets at Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands in Michigan.

The Frequent Skier Card is available to purchase online, over the phone, or at Sunday River, Sugarloaf, or Loon Mountain's lift ticket windows. Cost of the Frequent Skier Card is $89.
