Thom Perkins of the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation in Jackson, N.H., says, "The change from golf to ski in the base lodge is imminent.  We took over the building on Nov. 6 and got serious about preparations for the ski swap, potluck dinner and the grand opening of the new Gorham Bike and Ski Shop all on Nov. 14."

Details about the ski swap:  Bring in unneeded equipment and get tags 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov 9-13. Cost to participate is $1 per item.  The ski swap starts at 9 a.m. Saturday Nov. 14 and runs until 2 p.m., although Perkins says if past is prelude most of the gear will be gone by 10:30 a.m.

The offerings include skis, boots, clothing, snowshoes, kids gear, and at least one Thule box.

JSTF will track sales, and give sellers 85 percent of the proceeds; the Foundation's share goes to support kids programs. Unsold gear must be picked up by 4 p.m.

The potluck supper starts with hors d'oeuvres at 6 p.m. then dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Perkins says summer changes include work on The Wave, an extraordinary world-class racing trail which was new for last season; installation of a picture window in the Ellis River Warming Shelter, so skiers inside can watch skiers outside; and prospects for cocoa at the Ellis River Cocoa Canaba.

JSTF also has received two more permanent deeded easements for its trail system, which traverses much land owned by others, whose generosity allows so many cross-country skiers to enjoy the trails through this portion of the Mount Washington Valley.

Annual memberships are available at a preseason adult price of $115 until Nov. 30, when passes increase to $130. Jackson residents can buy passes for $65 until Nov. 30, when they too must pay full fare.
