Wintergreen in Virginia just introduced its Winter Escape packages that start at $69 per person, per night for studio accommodations. The package is available Sunday through Thursday nights from opening day to Dec. 24 and again from March 7 through the resort's closing day in the spring.

The price includes lodging, a lift ticket valid for eight consecutive hours, and full use of the Aquatic and Fitness Center. Guests can get 15 percent off the price of a retail lift ticket on the day of arrival and they can redeem their lift ticket for a $25 discount on a Guaranteed Learn to Ski or Ride lesson that typically costs $78.

Guests who complete the lesson qualify for an additional discount via the Guaranteed Learn to Ski or Ride Card. The card enables the bearer to return two or more times for a lesson at $59 including a limited use lift ticket, rentals, and the next level of instruction.  

Similar discount programs abound at Wintergreen. The Beat the Blues package valid Jan. 8-10 and March 5-7 starts at $103 per person per night for studio accommodations. Weekend Getaways are offered six different weekends in January and February starting at $130 per person, per night. Both programs require a two-night minimum.

It's even possible to ski and golf on the same day with the Ski and Tee program, depending on the weather. Wintergreen's gold course sits 3,000 feet below the ski area in a valley. The same day lift ticket serves double duty for the course.
