North Carolina's Appalachian Mountain top management recently announced its opening day target .The resort plans to begin operations for skiers and snowboarders Friday, Nov. 20 depending on the area's ability to make enough snow.  New, fully automated snowmaking towers were added to the Orchard Run and Big Appal to help coat the trails and ready them for the start of the season.

The first 100 guests in the ATP are free. ATP stands for App Terrain Park where Burton's new Progesssion program will be held.

General Manager Brad Moretz went one step further announcing that the resort will continue operations until April 11, 2010, a full week after Easter for a total of 142 days of skiing and snowboarding.  "It will be the longest season in the history of North Carolina skiing," Moretz predicted. "We know that Easter is an important family vacation time and we want to accommodate."

Appalachian has spent more than $2.5 million in the past couple of years improving its snowmaking infrastructure and other facilities including the building of a third terrain park. It has doubled its water pumping and reservoir capacity. Mountain operations personnel have the ability to churn out 40 millions pounds of snow each day.
