Mike and Beth Redmond have taken over operations at Tanglwood Ski Area in Tafton, Penn., after the previous owners ran into financial bad luck and couldn't open last season.

The Redmonds signed a deal with the old owners under which they operate the area for three years, with an option to buy.

"That's our intention," Mike Redmond said.

"We have a daughter into snowboarding, and we had spent probably seven years up here and loved the place," he said.

"Last year was the first time it was down since 1963. The old owners just had a stroke of bad luck. Allen Crouthamel, one of the old owners, works for us as mountain manager. He's very happy, ecstatic really, that we are opening it and making improvements. We brought a lot of the old team back because they know the area," Redmond said.

Tanglwood aims to open Dec. 19.

The ski area has 415 feet of vertical, nine trails on 35 skiable acres, with the longest run about three-quarters of a mile, lift capacity of 3,160 skiers per hour, two double chairs and rope tow, a terrain park, and tubing park.
