Tyrol Basin, recognizing that guests are watching their budgets in these tough economic times, is offering reduced lift tickets of $20 daily for the remainder of the season except for Tuesday when lift tickets are just $12 all day long anyway. Late season schedule for the Basin now in effect is: Tuesdays and Fridays 4 p.m.-9 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

It's been 20 years this season since current owner Don McKay reopened Tyrol Basin, which had closed for a few years in the mid-1980s. He wants to host an anniversary celebration at the end of the season and is asking for customer feedback. Pick a date, March 28 and 29 or April 18 and 19, and call Lana Chute at 608- 437-4135 to let her know your choice. You also can e-mail her at lana@tyrolbasin.com.

McKay would like to include as many guests as possible in the celebration and is offering them a choice. Tyrol has become one of the top-riding areas in the Heartland under his expert tutelage.

The Basin is known for its late season skiing and riding. They will often ski and ride into April and, in years past, were known for hosting a huge summer rail jam in late May or sometimes June. They would stockpile snow at the end of the season cover it with tarps and hay until the scheduled date. They haven't done that in recent years due to poorer snow years. Maybe it's time to reconsider with the great snow conditions we've had this season?
