Manganui Ski Area is a club ski field located on New Zealand’s North Island. Manganui is situated on the side of Mt. Taranaki within the border of Egmont National Park. The ski area is maintained and operated by the Stratford Mountain Club.
The ski area consists of gentle intermediate runs and open bowls. Manganui is known for being a family oriented resort but for also providing advanced skiers and snowboarders with lift accessed backcountry terrain and outstanding steeps.
Manganui Ski Area is very dependent on snow levels due to its relatively low base altitude of 1260m (4133ft). Beginners can start out on the Learner’s Rope Tow which accesses a short run with adequate space. Off of the T-bar is all intermediate level with nice roiling terrain and open uncrowded runs. For the advanced skier or snowboarder the Top-Tow is where you will find steep open faces, natural half pipes and amazing views.
Access to the ski area is from a sealed road through Beech forest. From the parking lot, one must walk to the about 20 minutes to ski field, this is a great way to get the warmed up and get the blood flowing before a day on the slopes. The Flying Fox lift is available to transport equipment and goods.
After a day on the slopes at Manganui, drive through sub-tropical rainforests along SH43 known as the Heritage Highway and take in the scenery of the beech ridge-tops of Whangamomona Saddle and Tangarakau Gorge.
No ski lessons, ski hire, or rentals available.
