Whiteface is awesome. It has so many great single black choices. There aren't many double blacks, but the ones they have, The Slides and Cloudsplitter Glades, are challenging enough that expert skiers will enjoy being here too. The bunny slopes are not accesible by the tougher slopes, which is a good thing. The vertical on this mountain is so high, that I actually got quite scared on the summit chair! It was so cold and there were little gusts of wind. Lake Placid is a great town, but some restraunts are better than others. Don't go to Milano, an Italian restraunt with a nice atmosphere but bad food. There are also some great shops and there is a cinema. Also, on the mountain there is a gondola. Gore Mountain better take a look at the Whiteface map before continuing the "we have the only gondola in the state" lies. The only bad thing about Whiteface is that the intermediate runs are crowded and icy. They provide access to a lot of expert runs, which is probably why. The place where Excelsior merges with Paron's Run is total chaos. Come to Whiteface if you are a confident single black skier. The ski school is good too.
