I've skied all over western New York and Eastern Quebec and i must say Whiteface was worth the drive. From the daily shuttle in Placid, to the great snow conditions, no lift lines, amazing views, friendly folks, cold beer half way up the hill and great food aswell. Whiteface is a great place to ski for a long weekend or for a whole week, there is so much to do. I would suggest staying downtown Lake Placid because it is rather cold at night time this way you don't freeze your buns off when you trek out after skiing for some food and afew drinks. There are tons of eateries and alot of bars.
For Canadians, now that the dollar is above par it's an extra bonus, why ski at an over crowded resort that doesn't really offer everything. Whiteface should be expereinced at least once by anyone who loves to ski, I can't wait to head back this winter, I hope mother nature is alittle more generous this year!
