Hunter is certainly nobodies idea of the ideal ski area, but if you live in the New York metro area, Hunter is easily your best option. Although it seems to rarely snow up there, Hunter's snow making capabilities are quite good. To get the best of the mountain show up early and go to the top half and stay there. Riding after 2 pm is often an ice fest on the weekends so be warned. Hunter's terrain is for the most part quite mellow but there are a few double diamonds that can get steep. Unfortunately these often get cut out with very solid moguls and as a result these runs are not the best for snowboarders. Thankfully there are some fun diamond runs on the East face that offer a good pitch and reasonably flat snow surface which are fast although a bit short. I'm not much a trick person myself but the terrain park and halfpipe look well made and maintained and should offer some fun moments for those so inclined.
