Holiday Valley is a good place to ski and to hang out, too. It's modern and large, with several lodges, runs, and lifts. The best part? Fast, modern ski lifts that accomodate a lot of people efficiently. The lines are never "too long." Mardi Gras is the main, long slope that is perhaps the best known, most used slope there; it's ok, but the one right next to it is my absolute favorite (it's narrower and less steep, but has a nice big drop off at the very end that gets you going fast). If you do go to this resort, I recommend staying in town at the fairly new Wingate Inn-- a great hotel within walking distance of downtown Ellicottville, which has a lively, easy-going daytime and nighttime "scene." Overall, a cool place to spend time...the "Aspen" of the East.
