Gore is a great mountain, despite it's status as the little, lesser known sister of Whiteface. Situated on three distinct peaks, it boasts everything anyone could want in a mountain; short lift lines, gentle beginner runs, long intermediate cruisers, narrow expert trails, awesome glades, crazy steeps, gorgeous views and the best grooming state-run ORDA (Olympic Regional Development Authority) has to offer, without the pretentious air of some other resorts. They run an excellent ski school program for kids, and they are very accomadating with respect to their lesson programs. Gore is also expanding on two fronts; a new lift on Burnt Ridge set to open December 2008, giving it yet another peak, more glades and another five miles of trails, as well as night skiing at the Ski Bowl, otherwise known as "Little Gore", with a planned connection to the main mountain in the works. Even with all the expansion, they retain the small mountain charm and atmosphere that so many find appealing. In short, it's one of the best values you can find in the east, and the food's pretty darn good too. Try any of the soups!
