Catamount is a great value in my opinion. This place is very reasonably priced, has great intermediate and expert terrain for NY and the Catskills, and is under a 3 hr drive from NYC. I went once in the 2011-2012 season on a Friday right after a snowfall and this place was awesome! No one on the trails, night skiing until very late (making the drive from NYC worth it). I went this Jan （2013） during a day when they had a $10 lift ticket special. Needless to say there had been no recent snowfall and the weather made snowmaking difficult, so they didnt even make any. Still a good day for anything under $40 a ticket. The staff are very nice (which is odd since they employ the same "type" of HS/college kids that most resorts do, yet they went out of their way to say 'Hi' and "Enjoy your run" etc.
I am a big fan of Catamount and will be returning soon.
