Tomahawk lift, Less crowded, Friendly staff, Great mountain layout
Some lifts are slow
I've been skiing Belleayre all season and it's a great mountain. It's run by New York State, so it doesn't have aggressive marketing campaigns like Windham or Hunter, and I hope it stays that way. Sure, it doesn't have lodges with gamerooms or ski in/ski out condos dotting the slopes, but it does have a big throwback lodges with fireplaces and a friendly local feel. This is how skiing used to be.
The high-speed quad lift that services that majority of the left side of the mountain can get crowded by mid-morning on the weekends. Once that happens, you're better off using the other triples and quads on the mountain. They are slower, but can be less crowded and but they're handy. For example, if you don't want to do the blacks at the top, you can unload at the midmountain stations and just do the blue sections.
