Skied it for the 5th time in the last eight seasons over the X-mas break. It just seems to get better each time.(just like Pizza Out Back in town-I can't imagine ever finding better pizza or calzone anywhere) I was at Crested Butte/Monarch at the start of the trip but after 1 day at Monarch and 2 at CB I heard a radio report about the old timers at Taos reporting the best snow they'd seen since the 70's. I decided to pack up and check it out. They weren't lying. Only skied 2 days there because I had to go home but it was awesome as usual. Crested Butte is our favorite place next to Taos (and we've skied all in CO as well as the Lake Tahoe area) and was great, as was Monarch (smaller yet great powder) but they couldn't compare to Taos. The Bavarian is a can't miss for a cheeseburger and a Spaten(beer). Taos is as good as it gets for expert/advanced skiing but they have plenty for all skier levels. The people running the place are great and they know skiing like no one else this side of the Atlantic. I don't get the people who want escalators though. Escalators? Seriously? There aren't that many steps. You're going skiing, not shopping at the mall. They'll probably put escalators in about the same time they install a magic carpet from chair 2 to Kachina Peak. We would go there once or twice every year but our son boards so we can only leave him home so much. If they have good snow, you can't beat Taos.
