can be magnificent powder, beautiful area, other things to see/do
Skiing is all about the conditions. Been to Taos at least 6 times. Had my best ever powder day there by far. Effortless skiing in waist high powder on the main trails. Also, taken the day off and gone hiking because conditions were horrible thin cover.
Unless they've changed it one of few resorts without snow boards - pure skiing. So the moguls are somewhat friendlier.
It's a bit of a effort to get to Town of Taos. Albuequerque airport is nice but rental cars are needlessly far away. The drive to Taos is lovely and if you have time I recommend coming back via the high bridge over the Rio Grande and going through Los Alamos. Plenty of lodging in Taos and some nice dining, but it's a bit of a drive to the mountain from there - scenic though.
Note that I tend to rate most things at 3 stars, I save 5 for the very best.
