I learned to ski here so I am biased to Santa Fe. Still it is a great ski area when there is snow and there is more challanging terrain then most people know about, you just have to ask around. The lift operators are usually very nice, but can get cranky when inept skiers get on a lifts they are not ready for.
When upper mountain is open there are numerous places to ski without worrying someone is going to run over you and the view from upper mountain is fantastic!
Pack your lunch unless you want to pay too much for a hamburger that is blah. The the mountain food is not great, but the food in Santa Fe is wonderful and there are restaurants that are not too expensive.
