Anonymous, I'm not sure about whether you're allowed to still hike up like the old days. The competition ends on Saturday and the lift should open back up after that. I'm gone now but plan on watching the final day of competition from the website.
From my understanding Kachina peak is closed, bc they are having the extreme freeriders competition this weekend...not bc of Av control. I was looking forward to it also, but the 25" powder day in Wolf Creek made this trip just as worthwhile.
Snowboarding Taos was a blast. Bone dry powder shots! However, having left CO on a 2 foot powder day last Sunday to ride Kachina peak I was extremely disappointed the staff never opened the lift. I respect avy and safety control but that's weak! C'mon man!
Couldn't agree more. 17" of snow over two days (not a major dump by any standard) and it took Patrol 3 days to get chair 4 going much less Kachina. I've been skiing here 7 years and it's getting worse. Hope new owner takes note and kicks some butt.
