Ski Apache is a great mountain with terrain for all types of skiers, providing there is sufficient snow! I will not journey to Ruidoso unless there is at least 40" of base and the mountain is 100% open- so check the snow report, Brandon! There is plenty to do in Ruidoso, including golf, casinos, movies, and restaurants/clubs. The drive up the mountain can be harrowing or boring, depending on if you re following or leading! (C'mon Texans, use the gas!!) Or, there has been shuttle service in the past. Yes, the resort is run by the Mescalero Apaches, and yes, they deserve respect ansd will return the same. I really enjoy breakfasting at the lodge! It is possible to avoid beginners if the whole mountain is open, there are plenty of steep, challenging runs and Apache Bowl is a blast with awesome views of terrain below. I wish we would see upgrades to the lodge, many of the lifts and epecially the gondola, which is creakier by the year. With some capital investment, and some cooperation from Mother Nature, Ski Apache easily should rate higher than 9th in New Mexico. Here's hoping that comes to pass and I will enjoy many more blissful ski days at Ski Apache!
