I've been skiing at Ski Apache for years, and it does seem that things are getting progressively worse. No doubt last years no-snow season has left them hurting, and the slow start this year will not help. When they have lots of snow, and the whole mountain is open, and the crowd isn't too big, Ski Apache is great. You can stay up top and avoid the inadequate base facility and lifts. When the crowd gets big on a holiday weekend, the place falls apart, in every way. The slow lifts have to stop every 5 chairs because someone falls off.
It's too bad, that while mother nature has not always blessed ski apache with abundant snow, the current management is just milking it and making no improvements. Most New Mexico resorts have added new terrain and lifts and recent years, and built expanded facilities. Not Ski Apache. And this year they have not even made snow on all the terrain they claim to be covered by snow making, no excuse. Something is very wrong up on that mountain.
Go to Ski Apache on a non-holiday weekday.
Rent skis in Ruidoso, not at Ski Apache.
