The New Mexico Enduro Cup! www.nmendurocup.com
Mountain bike Enduro racing is coming to New Mexico in an exciting new series of races – The New Mexico Enduro Cup! This multiple race series is designed to get mountain bikers riding the most fun sections of downhill and rolling trail we can find at each of the race venues.
Enduro racing is the fastest growing discipline in mountain biking today! It captures the most fun elements of the sport in amazing locations, where you're timed only on big descents and the most fun parts of each trail system (stages). The New Mexico Enduro Cup races combine stages that require riders to have moderate to excellent fitness and technical skills. Many kids, Jr. racers, and new mountain bikers are really getting into this hip and fun side of the sport since most of the difficult climbing is done by chairlift or shuttle, leaving the fun part to ride – the downhill Enduro stage! Enduro takes the big climbing and flat miles of terrain out of cross country racing and takes out the most extreme elements out of downhill.
The NM Enduro Cup is one of the first state Enduro series of its kind, brought to you by Sport Systems MountainTop Cycling. SSMTC has a successful seven year history of promoting mountain biking, triathlon, and road cycling events in NM. We promote the NM Mountain Bike XC championships, The Adoption Exchange Road Omnium, and OSO High XC. MountainTop Team Director Damian Calvert is excited about the positive impact of Enduro in the sport of mountain biking - “Enduro is the most fun I have had on two wheels since I started racing cross country back in the early 90’s. I am glad to see such a fun fresh discipline in our sport that entire families can enjoy.” Many riders agree that it is the most fun discipline in the sport and that has led to the explosion in Enduro race attendance and rider requests for more events
Sponsors are stepping in to help kick off the NMEC with over $6000 in prizes up for grabs in the first 3 races. We are very excited about the two host venues this year, Angel Fire Bike Park and Sandia Peak Ski Area.
Sandia Peak Ski Area, about 20 minutes from Albuquerque, will again host the Sandia Peak Bomber Enduro. Following the very successful innaugural race last season, Sandia Peak has again committed to host the second stop of the series this year. With one of the least technical courses in the state, this race should attract many new-comers to the sport. 12 year old Mason Calvert took home 3rd place in his first Enduro here last year and had this to say about the race “The race was really cool because there are fast sections, flowy sections, and some technical stuff that is real fun. Anyone can do it”. His 8 year old brother Myles also raced his first Enduro “The race was FUN! The King of the Mountain run had some technical parts but the Golden Eagle was easy”. www.sandiapeak.com
