Sandia Peak Ski and Snow Report

  • Sandia also my home mtn, lots of love for the mountain and crew. They do the best with what they got. I know they purchased a few high quality snow machines this year. They are top of the line, they did not skimp. But a few guns are tens of thousands plus compressors, water and electricity. talked with the owner of the co. and when you only have mostly natural snow and limited supplies, financially and materials only so much they can do. They are backed by Santa Fe ski area but does not say so much. Santa Fe and Sandia are privately owned and insured, not like your mega resorts. They had to cut costs, can't staff, got to know when to hold um know when to fold them.... As far as the lifts they do the best with what they have rather ride old chair lifts and keep Sandia alive !!!. Rather see them hold out after a terrible season, hope for a better season next year and keep fighting to open again. All logistics of staffing, poor economy, and Santa Fe being able to bring in the big bucks to hold them over. Sandia is our local secret and all my prayers to keep the mtn alive. All positive thoughts and love for the employees and mtn. -n

  • yes. very true about the lifts. i have been stuck pn them many times over the years all for 2 or more hours. one time it was so bad we had to be thrown climbing ropes. very scarry to climb 60' from a chair to the ground.

  • I also really hope sandia will be able to stay open. Its not the biggest or most diffucult mountain but when theirs good powder, ill go to sandia cause its like 15 minutes from my house. Only wish they had money for the out dated lifts. Anyway love you sandia sorry about this season
