After a winter of deep snows, warm temperatures and lack of new snow this month are taking a toll in New Mexico. Fast-changing conditions prompted Angel Fire Resort to change its winter closing date back to its original weekend and two other resorts closed for the season.

New Mexico resorts are seeing a 60 percent increase in skier visits over last season. Why? The state has the best snowfall that it has seen in 13 years. Last year, several resorts didn't receive enough snow to open while others racked up only a 30-inch total. But this year is a different story with more than 15 feet of snow so far this year. To combat recent dry years, Pajarito Mountain is considering installation of a $2.6 million snowmaking system. While May balloting of the Los Alamos Ski Club owners showed support, finding water is the challenge. Full Article
