Pros: You don't have to leave -- contained village

Cons: expensive food and booze; lack of restaurant choices

WV seems to be making a comeback with young, single professionals from Boston, Manchester, Portland, Portsmouth and Providence again. It was that way in the '80s, when I started skiing and met my wife up there, but it has become a premier family destination, because of people like me who found their spouses up there, got married and had families and bought condos. It's starting to cook a little again.
PROS: Great terrain, challenging steeps, great grooming/snowfarming, excellent ski school for kids and adults, pretty sweet ticket deals, like 2-for-1 mondays and fridays, new snowmaking capability (albeit the snowfall is pretty good, being a box canyon 11 miles from the highway), friendly and helpful staff, a village with restaurants, an ice rink, shops, etc. and a helpful website. Lots to do for everybody.
CONS: Not enough terrain, Expensive food and booze on the mountain (Let's be fair -- this is how a ski area makes its money) and a pretty ubiquitous police presence. WORD TO THE WISE -- from the time you get off I-93 at exit 28 until you get back on to go home, 1) use your cruise control on rt 49, 2) never ever roll through a stop sign, 3) never go more than the speed limit anywhere in the valley or on the road to the mountain.
