After being defunct for over a decade, Crotched Mountain was reopened under new ownership severa lyears back with new facilities and other major improvements.
Crotched is the perfect-sized place. Big enough to offer a wide variety of terrain for both beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders alike. At the same time, it's small enough to make it easy to park your vehicle, get your lift ticket and get out there and ski without having your wallet sucked dry.
I was there on New Year's Day. Minimal to no lift lines, 48 degrees (little slushy). Compare that to the throngs at Gunstock where I skied the day before. Night skiing is great too as every trail is open for skiing to 3AM on Fridays and Saturdays.
Crotched is about 40 minutes from Manchester, NH, so it's an easier mountain to get to for those of us from Eastern and Central Massachusetts as well as southern NH.
