I've skied here three or four times through the years. It's relatively small, (1000' vd), but it packs a lot of entertainment for its size. First of all, it only has about 15 trails, but they are actual trails, not 100 yard cut throughs that are called trails to beef up the amount of trails like so many ski areas do today. A lot of these trails are separate trails with few or any cut throughs or exits. Once your on a trail here, your on that trail to the bottom of the hill. Most of the terrain is on the level of intermediate/upper intermediate. There isn't much here for the true beginner or novice. There also isn't a great deal here for the high level expert who wants a thrilling challenge, but if your an intermediate to advanced skier that wants to do some serious cruising, you will love this place. The biggest drawback is the antiquated double chair lift that is as slow as you remember double chairs being before high speed lifts made their appearance. (they may have updated lifts since I was here a few years ago, but I doubt it.) The only patrons are people that are staying at the Balsams Hotel and a few locals, so it will never seem crowded on the slopes. Staff is friendly as they assume everyone is a hotel guest. Lodge is non frills, rustic and quaint. Enjoy!
