Full review

Just learned to ski this year at Mt. Rose. It is excellent! Instructors were *great*, and the beginner area has some reasonably challenging areas, so it's easy to learn and get better on the green runs. The blue runs are great, too, and the views from the top of the mountain cannot be beat. The lifts to the top are fast, too! Lots of people on the weekends (mostly locals from Reno), few during the week, with good specials for discount lift tickets weekdays. Exceptionally friendly staff, and very helpful, too. There is more to this mountain than you might expect, and the Slide side has some great runs. The Chutes (from what my crazy ski friends tell me) are supposed to be some of the most challenging legal terrain in the country. They look pretty amazing... Because Mt. Rose is very close to Reno, proximity makes up for the lack of a really fancy lodge, since you can be in a casino in a swanky restaurant with great service about 30 minutes after skiing. Besides, who wants to pay fancy lodge/ski village prices? Enjoy this mountain---I sure did!!
