Snow Reporter Comments

Folks - If you are bummed, as I am, that SnoBowl didn't open this year, then it's important that you attend the Elko City Council meeting this Tuesday evening at City Hall. The meeting starts at 4PM, and SnoBowl's agenda item is relatively early on.

Our long-term goal is to complete SnoBowl according to the original vision - with top-to-bottom snowmaking, about twice the regular skiable terrain, another rope tow at the top of the steep terrain looker's left from the base… even a new base lodge and cafeteria once the revenue works. Our first step in achieving all of these things is to make SnoBowl profitable, not just sustainable… and that means getting our snowmaking project under way. With snowmaking we'd be able to have a regular operating schedule, rather than being completely dependent on what Mother Nature brings us.

We have proposed to the city forming a partnership that would have them taking over day-to-day operations up at SnoBowl, with a new 501c3 organization responsible for fundraising for capital improvements, including snowmaking. SnoBowl's long-term sustainability would be guaranteed with this partnership, as the cost savings realized through this kind of partnership would go directly into operations there.

If you believe in SnoBowl and want to see it become what we all know it can be, then plan on being at City Council Tuesday night, about 4:30 PM. We need your support!

Lots of precipitation these last few days put nothing that wants to stick to the ground and help start our base. We are only a couple of days into winter so keep your heads high and pray for snow!

Unfortunately we didn't get as much snow as anticipated, we ended up with around an inch for the weekend. We have a bit of a warm weather coming in for Thanksgiving week, then another cold front! Pray for snow and keep checking in!
