I grew up in Bend Oregon and worked at Mt Bachelor for many years just to ski, left in the early eighties got way to crowded and became a corporate entity and greed followed Just finished raising my daughters on the North Shore of Oahu and now live in Dillon most of the year One of the main reasons why i chose Dillon because of the proximity to Mavericks 62 and still turned on by skiing had a terrific day this last Monday the 20th February lots of great powder all to myself in the trees...the place is great, the people are very nice and i would highly recommend to anyone that wants to have some great skiing....so much more of the mountain to explore
old school great

Local ski area. Brings one back to 40 years ago when people were down to earth and not stuck up. This place is what is right in the world.
Inexpensive, friendly, uncrowded

Maverick is a down to earth mountain. I go to ski, and that is what they have. There is no ritz here. Small lodge with food and a bar. Only one double chair but it gives u nearly 2000 vertical. $40 to ski all day. Incredible value. I would take four days skiing here vs one day at other trendy mountains for the same price. I ski mostly blacks and double blacks. The best part of their blacks is the consistent pitch. Some resorts will have a steep section followed by a long blue/green runout. But their blacks on the right side of the mountain are fantastic, long, and consistent pitch. They have some glades, but not a lot. Always can find some tree skiing. The locals said this was a good snow year, apparently snow can be an issue here. But being there is not many people that go here, I found plenty of lightly tracked parts of runs. Also, did I mention parking is so close u could throw a rock from the parking lot to the lift.
Price, local vibe, close parking

Cool, funky little ski area in the middle of nowhere. Skied here on a sunny Sat. in Feb and there were maybe 150 people on the hill. It hadn't snowed in 2 days but there was still powder to be had right on the main runs. Not many really good skiers so the snow stays soft. The coverage was a little thin in places (they don't get all that much snow in a season) but good overall. If there is good coverage then the steep trees right down the front side skiers right of the chair (there is only 1 chair and it is painfully slow) look very inviting. Plenty of interesting terrain to keep anyone occupied for a day or two without repeating runs too often. The carpeted (floor walls and ceiling) base lodge is interesting, mostly because it doesn't reek of mold. This is the kind of ski area that reminds you of why you started skiing in the first place, simply for the fun of it. Great comraderie and a feeling of community.
Cheap, Uncrowded, Comfortable
Slow lift, No Real Steeps
Maverick is an uncrowded ski area that is far from any of Montana's larger cities. After several years of poor snowfall, Maverick had great conditions in 2008. Some nice advanced runs on the north side. Only open 4 days a week, so good powder can often be found on Thursdays and Fridays. The single lift provides 1500 vertical feet of skiing over 270 degrees from the top of the mountain
Uncrowded, inexpensive
Lacks sufficient snowfall, slow lift, lacks steep terrain
This is a really great ski area and i love the thin air run.i hope to come back soon.
