If you've ever visited Welch Village, you can be guaranteed two things: a boring drive to the middle of nowhere, and sketchy ski lifts. This aside, you may not know that the lifties are also some of the best in the midwest. The chairs a treacherous: squeaking, rotating sideways at angles, and clipping you low on the back of your boots. But the lifties are there to help, getting the chair up under you and preventing you from pole-ing out or getting clipped in the back of the boot. They are also nice and friendly.Lift lines were non-existent, but that was to be expected for a weekday afternoon. Even though school was out, we never waited more than a chair. Welch does a good job operating chairs proportionally to the amount of visitors, it seems...running chairs that allow access to the same parts of the mountains, but still distribute the lift line loads. For lifties and lift lines, Welch seems pretty good to me.
