Full review

If you were put off by Spirit Mountain's conditions the past few years, it's time to open your eyes to the 2008-2009 season. Lest you've noticed, the Duluth area is in one of it's best snow years in a while. Spirit is reaping the benefits as well. Yesterday I skied Spirit and enjoyed about 3" of fresh (with more in some special spots) covering the entire hill. The turns were beautifully soft across ungroomed fresh snow sitting on top of more natural snow than has ever covered Spirit. The wind was whipping pretty good, but it died down by the afternoon. Plus, a little bit of wind at the top 10 seconds of a lift isn't that bad when the snow is so terrific. If you want great snow for awesome turns, check out Spirit right now. Just be aware of the lifts. This is the second time I've seen Spirit have lift troubles this season. This time, however, people were stranded on the Express lift...and they were only a few minutes away from evacuating the chairs. They got it started to get people off, but the lift stayed shut down for the remainder of the day.
