Lutsen holds a special place for my girlfriend and I. It's absolutely fantastic and it is hands-down our favorite place to ski that isn't in the Rockies.

The only bad thing about Lutsen is that it can be kind of painful to get from one area (say, Eagle Mountain) over to another (say, Moose Mountain). This is due to some outdated lifts.

The runs are long, the terrain is extremely varied, the people are really nice, and the scenery is absolutely off the hook. Also, there is lots to do besides skiing - there are all sorts of hiking trails, parks, etc around.

The best skiing in the state can be found on Eagle Mountain. The double-black runs on the north end (Raven, George's Run, Chris's Couloir) there usually go untouched throughout the day and you can find some pristine conditions. Take Bridge Run down to the bottom for Lutsen's signature intermediate run - you'll come around the east side of Eagle Mountain and Lake Superior will literally open up before you. It's exhilarating.
