Ok the resort is great. Been going there for about the last seven year. Terrain for all levels and nice long runs. Similar to many out east mountains. Great skiing complex they've created through the years. Not much more to add on the positive side as everyone has pretty much hit the nail on the head. Doesn't really get better in the Midwest.
Cons: Pain to get too. Just a long drive from anywhere just about. Papa Charlies from my understanding use to be owned by a seperate owner from the ski hill until last year or two and the owner of the hill bought it. What a mistake. Who sets these prices???? I'm fairly well off to do in life and I'm shocked at the prices. Locals up there laugh at Papa Charlies now when they use to embrace it. Seriously like 10 to 12 beers on tap from PBR to Miller Lite to Imports and there all like $6.00 (can't remember exactly but right around there)for a pint. Same price for a Hienken as a PBR. Really how does that work??? Makes no sense what so ever. Even the bartenders are dumbfounded on that one. Your in the middle of no where and the prices are so high people are willing to say screw it and stay in because of the prices. Use to be just packed in Papa every night in the past and now its hit or miss. Food prices in Papa's is just as shocking. Simple burger is $10. Nachos are like $10. Main entrees are like $18 to $30, with most in the mid 20's. Food is very avg also. I can go to downtown Chicago and eat and drink at those prices all day long. Simple shot of Dr's is like 7 bucks. I don't how typical snowboarder and skier can even afford to go to Papa Charlies at night anymore with out drinking water all night. Also its really about time that resort gets some new chairlifts in there. They do a very good business and its really the last thing missing to make this resort even better.
Sorry about the rant on Papa Charlies its just a sore subject with a long time skier of the mountain as it use to be just as much of an attraction as the hill. But at those prices we party at the room first and then check it out at night and bring the party back with us. Still a blast but not as fun as before.
