I skied Afton Alps for the first time ever over the weekend. The weather was down right chilly, but the conditions were great...over 4" of fresh snow on top of a few other inches from days prior. So bearing the cold, I made some great turns.
Afton is a fun little place stuck in the middle of no where. I think probably during a weekend that isn't so dang cold, it'd be busy with people from the Metro, but today it was OK. Their vertical is very small, but the runs are fun. There's only a three runs right on the front side facing the main chalet that are worthwhile--that is, steep enough. The Bowl run is tons of fun because of all the natural terrain features in it. Combined with the great snow cover Afton had, it made for a great time.
The ticketing process is a little screwy: having to buy a ticket to be able to park in the lot? That's kind of nutty time.
The lifts are old but in good shape and move at a decent click. The lifties are courteous, so there's no problem with surface transportation at Afton either.
Overall, a good little resort. I'm not sure how much the ticket price is, but as long as it isn't astronomical, it's worth showing up for.
