Well maintained lifts and lodges, lots of runs, convenient night skiing
Very small verticle drop, lots of young kids
I've skied Afton several times--mainly because it's the best hill within short driving distance of the Twin Cities. It's very convenient to drive down there on a week night to get a few hours of skiing in before they close. However, it's crazy on the weekends with kids everywhere. The runs are VERY short. They do their best with what they have--which is a lot of horizontal space (lots of runs) but very short vertical space (small hills).
If you're looking for a weekend skiing getaway, it's much better to drive to Michigan's Upper Peninsula (4 hrs) or up to Duluth.
